The Next Evolution: Integrating Behavioral Support into Neuromodulation
Historically, behavioral therapy and acute migraine treatment have existed in separate silos. Patients might receive a prescription from one clinician while independently seeking behavioral therapy elsewhere, if they pursue it at all.
Digital therapeutics and connected neuromodulation, such as Nerivio’s Guided Intervention of Education and Relaxation (GIER) feature, remove that separation entirely.

What Happens When REN Is Combined with GIER?
This question was evaluated in a real-world observational study comparing patients using REN alone with patients who paired REN with GIER delivered through the Nerivio app [1].
GIER incorporates guided relaxation, breathing exercises, educational content, and behavioral coaching directly into the Nerivio treatment experience.
Compared with REN alone, REN + GIER produced significantly higher rates of:
- Greater consistency of pain relief (79.4% vs 56.8%)
- Greater improvement in functional ability (71.3% vs. 52.5%)
- Higher rates of return to normal function (37.5% vs. 17.5%) [3]
Clinical Meaning
These improvements extend beyond pain reduction. They reflect better restoration of daily function, arguably the outcome that matters most to patients. Behavioral interventions help improve self-efficacy, reduce stress responses, and encourage healthier coping strategies, complementing the physiologic effects of neuromodulation [1].

The future of migraine care isn’t going to be built around isolated therapies. Instead, it is moving toward integrated care models that combine acute treatment, behavioral support, and patient education into a single experience.
